CALGARY – One of the most exciting events on the annual U SPORTS calendar is back for a 11th year as the University of Calgary Dinos and Mount Royal University Cougars get set to take over the Scotiabank Saddledome for the 11th annual Crowchild Classic on Friday, Jan. 31.

This annual event holds multiple U SPORTS hockey attendance records. Tickets are now available for purchase at GoDinos.com/cc for just $5.

The Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome is the yearly celebration of university sport in Calgary. It is the largest gathering of students in the city each year and will once again feature a hockey doubleheader, with the women's game set for 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

Beyond the rivalry and playing in front of the largest crowd of the season, these games annually live up to the hype. Three of the four hockey programs involved currently rank in the U SPORTS Top 10, while 12 of the previous 20 contests at the 'Dome have been decided by just a one-goal margin, including seven overtime games.

Through the first 10 installments of the crosstown rivalry on NHL ice, an impressive 97,764 fans have shown their support for university hockey in the city of Calgary. This year's celebration will undoubtedly push the total attendance past 100,000.

About the Crowchild Classic
The Crowchild Classic is an annual competition between the University of Calgary Dinos and the Mount Royal University Cougars in Canada West regular season games across the sports of basketball, hockey, soccer, and volleyball. The marquee event, a hockey doubleheader, takes place each year at the Scotiabank Saddledome thanks to the generous support of the Calgary Flames Foundation. The school that wins the most games in the series is awarded 'The Medal' – a 68-kilogram cast iron City of Calgary manhole cover.

In the first installment of the rivalry games in 2012, the Crowchild Classic broke a 42-year-old Canada West attendance record and set a U SPORTS men's hockey attendance record with a total of 12,859 fans in 2016. In nine seasons, the game has become a fixture on the Calgary sports scene and one of the marquee university sport events in Canada each year.
