VANCOUVER, B.C. - For the second consecutive week the Huskies took the field for a Homecoming matchup. This time the Dogs were in Vancouver at Thunderbird Stadium, looking to play spoiler at the University of British Columbia's Homecoming game. The Thunderbirds would prevail, handing the Huskies their third loss of the season to move the visiting team to 1-3 on the season. Meanwhile the Thunderbirds improve to 2-2 through four weeks.
Following a back-and-forth first half, the Thunderbirds returned from the locker room and put together a series of strong performances on both sides of the ball. Forcing a pair of two-and-outs from the Huskie offence, UBC capitalized, scoring 10 points in their first two drives to take a 38-17 advantage they would carry to the final whistle.
The first half saw an opening-drive touchdown from the Thunderbirds before the Huskies responded with back-to-back drives ending in
Lukas Scott field goals. Early in the second quarter the Saskatchewan offence finally broke through as
Anton Amundrud connected with
Daniel Wiebe for an 87-yard throw and catch into the endzone.
It was another impressive day from the veteran receiver Wiebe, who caught nine passes for a game-high 150 yards and two touchdowns. The veteran receiver continues to showout in 2024, averaging 117 yards per game and leading Canada West with five receiving touchdowns.
Despite soem offensive momentum the Thunderbirds scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-17 lead at halftime.
Anton Amundurd produced yet another impressive stat line for the Dogs, completing 27 of his 39 attempts for 329 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On the ground,
Kayden Miller led the way with 64 yards on seven carries, followed by
Ryker Frank who totaled 27 rushing yards.
For the Thunderbirds, Isaiah Knight led the way with 189 yards, including a 59-yard run into the endzone for one of his two scores. UBC quarterback Garrett Rooker also put in a strong day, throwing for 320 yards and going 22-for-29.
