QUICKLY
Peyton Enns scored the first postseason hat trick in school history and
Kirsten Koellmel set a school single-match assists record as the University of Regina's women's soccer team took a 4-3 road victory over Alberta on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West play-in game in Edmonton.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Enns got things started early for the Cougars, settling a nice cross from the right courtesy of Kirsten Koellmel and fending off an Alberta defender while slipping it past Pandas keeper Autumn Wynn to put the Cougars up in the ninth minute.
- But Regina's lead didn't last long as just six minutes later, Alberta's Emily Duxbury headed in a cross from the right to tie it up at 1-1.
- The torrid scoring pace continued just two minutes after Duxbury's goal. Koellmel sent in a cross that Wynn couldn't handle, and Enns was there to tap in an easy one.
- Nicole Klassen got into the act in the 31st minute. Koellmel sent in yet another dangerous cross which was partially dealt with by Alberta's back line, but Klassen ended up with the ball at the top of the box and fired it into the left corner to put Regina up 3-1.
- Abbie Sheflo drew Alberta closer in the 66th minute with a laser from distance, but Enns was next up 10 minutes later. She completed the hat trick when Makenna Sackman led her with a great ball and though her initial shot was saved, Enns was there to collect the rebound and restore the two-goal lead.
- Alberta scored in injury time to draw back to within one goal, but the Pandas weren't able to find the equalizer.
NOTES
- Koellmel's helpers on the first three Regina goals gave her the first three-assist performance in school history.
- Starting keeper Kareena Andersen made seven saves for the Cougars.
