CURL: Alberta men, Victoria women undefeated heading into final draw

VICTORIA - The Alberta Golden Bears on the men's side and Victoria Vikes on the women's side posted perfect records on day two of the Canada West Curling Championships to remain undefeated heading in to the final draw, Feb. 25 at the Victoria Curling Club.
Draw 2
Draw 2 of the 2023 Canada West Curling Championships saw the Calgary Dinos debut in the competition, opening against the Brandon Bobcats.
In the men's game, the Dinos capitalized on a few opportunities by executing great team shots, taking game one over the Bobcats by a score of 12-6. On the women's side, the Dinos were aggressive out of the gate to take a commanding lead over the Bobcats. Thanks to the strong sweeping duo of Kate Ector (Lead) & Elliot Martens (Second), Calgary was able to put their rocks in good position to take the game, 9-2.
The Alberta Golden Bears & Pandas continued their weekends by taking on the Victoria Vikes. The Golden Bears continued their solid play and got their fair share of the breaks, leading to a 9-0 win on the men's side. The Vikes women continued their strong opening round play against the Pandas, taking a 7-2 win over Alberta.
Draw 3
The Battle of Alberta took place at the Victoria Curling Club with the Alberta Golden Bears & Pandas taking on the Calgary Dinos to open the third draw.
The Golden Bears had a hammer in the extra end with Johnson Tao making a short run back for the win and making no mistake. The Golden Bears took the win by a score of 8-7, remaining undefeated at 3-0.
The women's game saw the Pandas come out victorious by a score of 8-3 after Alberta bounced back to pull away for good in the fourth end.
After having a bye last draw, the Regina Cougars were back on the ice to face the Brandon Bobcats. The men from Regina grabbed a tightly-contested 7-6 win. A back-and-forth battle on the women's side, Brandon put their first win of the weekend on the board by a score of 10-7.
Draw 4
With their final round robin standing on the line, the Brandon Bobcats took the ice and split with the Vikes. The Brandon men's squad closed their competition with an 8-1 win, keeping the pressure on and pulling away as the game wore on. The Brandon Bobcats women's squad finished their round robin with an 11-4 loss to the Vikes.
The Calgary Dinos took on the Regina Cougars for each of their third games of the weekend. The men's game was tight down to the wire, ending in a win for the Dinos by a score of 7-4. The women's game was filled with energy and excitement, with the Cougars pulling away with an 11-6 win.
The last draw is set for tomorrow, Feb. 26, at 9 a.m. at the Victoria Curling Club to determine the conference champions.
