Day one of Canada West golf action tees off in Victoria

Victoria, B.C. - Beginning the 2022 Canada West Golf Championships, the UBC Thunderbirds finished in top positions on the men's and women's sides at Cordova Bay Golf Course, Oct. 3.
Day 1 Results
Finishing with three players in the top five individually after round one, UBC holds the top spot on the men's team leaderboard with a combined -5 over the first 18 holes of play. Fraser Valley and UBCO round out the top three men's teams after day one, posting collective scores of +2 and +7, respectively.
Individually, UBC's Hudson Lafayette finished in first place on the men's side after carding a 67 (-4) in the opening round of play. Teammate JP Kahlert and UFV's Jackson Jacob finished day one in a tie for second with matching scores of 69 (-2).
Four other players on the men's side posted an under-par first round in UBCO's Andrew Rouble and Justin Towill, UBC's Dylan McDonald, and UFV's Ben Whiton, who each shot 70 (-1).
The Thunderbirds also lead all Canada West teams on the women's side, posting a combined +8 to lead the field. UBCO and Victoria sit within one stroke of each other in second and third place with combined +12 and +13 first round team scores, respectively.
Jessica Ng of UBC and Sukriti Harjai of Victoria sit in a tie for first place individually after posting scores of 68 (-3) during the first round of play. Khushi Hooda of UBCO shot a par-71 round to finish out the top-three individuals on the women's side.
Also a momentous occasion for the conference, the competition field reached nine teams for the first time since the tournament's inception in 2019, with the University of Regina joining the ranks in 2022.
