HKY: Kastning's shutout earns Spartans first win
VANCOUVER - It was a historic weekend for the Trinity Western Spartans women's hockey team, as they posted their first win in program history thanks in part to a 31-save performance from second-year goaltender Jadeyn Kastning.
Kastning and Calgary Dinos captain Ryan Gagnon were named Canada West Hockey Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Kastning and the Spartans notched their first Canada West win, a 1-0 double overtime victory, against the Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night at Langley's George Preston Arena. The Medicine Hat, Alta. product was phenomenal between the pipes for Trinity Western making 26 saves in regulation and an additional five in the first overtime.
Trinity Western (1-5-0) will be looking to add to its win total this weekend, when they head to Regina to take on the Cougars (2-4-2). Both games are available live on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.

Calgary fifth-year defenceman Ryan Gagnon had a five assist weekend, helping the Dinos to a pair of wins on the road in Edmonton against the MacEwan Griffins.
The Quesnel, B.C. product recorded a pair of assists in Friday's 4-0 win, before assisting on all three Calgary goals in Saturday's 3-2 victory.
Gagnon, who played five years in the WHL for the Victoria Royals, has posted a conference-best seven assists in 2021 and is tied for sixth in points.
The Dinos (4-2) will host the Alberta Golden Bears (2-2) on Friday night before squaring off again with the Griffins on Saturday (2-4). Both games are available live on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
