University of Regina women's basketball player Jade Belmore has been named to Canada Basketball's U23 national team which will compete at the GLOBL JAM this week in Toronto.
GLOBL JAM is an international competition featuring four teams on both the women's and the men's sides. Canada's women's team opens the tournament on Wednesday against Team Africa, plays the United States on Thursday, and finishes off pool play against Puerto Rico on Saturday.
The top two teams in the four-team pool will rematch for the gold medal on Sunday, with the bottom two teams squaring off for bronze earlier in the day.
Belmore, who will be making her international debut at the event, is the lone U SPORTS player on Canada's 12-player roster for the event. I schools last year while the other – Rosalie Mercille – played at Cégep de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu but has committed to Monmouth (NCAA Div. I) for next season.
Canada will be coached at the event by York University head coach Christa Eniojukan. All games will be played at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto and broadcast nationally on the Sportsnet platform.
