NEW WESTMINSTER – The 2016-17 Canada West season schedule was rounded out Thursday, as the conference's championship dates in cross country, swimming, wrestling, and track and field were unveiled.
November will feature a pair of Canada West championships up for grabs in the aforementioned sports, as cross country and swimming will crown their conference champions. The Canada West cross country titles will once again be determined by placement at the CIS national meet, which heads to Laval (Nov. 12), while the Canada West swimming championships are slated to hit the pool at the University of Alberta (Nov. 25-26).
The CIS swimming nationals will be hosted by Sherbrooke the last weekend of February.
Both wrestling and track and field won't crown conference champions until the calendar turns to 2017, as the Canada West wrestling championships head to the University of Saskatchewan (Feb. 10-11), and the track and field championships travel to the University of Regina (Feb. 24-25).
Canada West is also the proud host of the 2017 CIS wrestling nationals, as the conference will welcome the event Feb. 24-25 at a venue to be announced, while the CIS track and field nationals head to Quebec at a venue to be announced.
A number of wrestling events hosted by Canada West members were also announced Thursday, as the conference's six wrestling schools are all set to host invitational events during the 2016-17 season. The Dino Invitational October 29th kicks off the invitational circuit, while the Cascades Invitational January 29th will be the final event prior to the Canada West championships.
