CURL: Host Regina wins Women's CW Banner in Day 3; Alberta repeats as Men's Champions

REGINA - The Regina Cougars captured the Canada West title on the women's side on Sunday, via tiebreaker. All three teams in the women's bracket were deadlocked in a three-way tie. The winner was determined by the last stone draw and the banner was awarded to the Cougars for the first time ever.
The Alberta Golden Bears won the 2022 Canada West Curling Championship on Sunday after defeating UBC 7-6 in Draw 6. Alberta went perfect in the round robin to win their third consecutive Canada West Banner.
In Draw 6, Regina's men's team defeated Brandon 9-8 to clinch second place. Regina scored a key two points in the ninth end and held onto their lead to finish the tournament with a 3-1 record.
On the women's side in Draw 6, the Alberta Pandas defeated the Brandon Bobcats 10-2 to force the three-way tie for first place.
The Pandas and the Bobcats had a rematch in Draw 7 to determine the second place winner. Alberta took the game 11-5 to clinch the silver medal. With the loss, Brandon finished in third place.
UBC, Lethbridge and Brandon finished in third, fourth and fifth in the men's bracket, respectively.
The 2022 U Sports National Curling Championships was set to take place in Sudbury, Ont. from March 15th to 19th but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
